The Artillery Forward Observer Trainer (AFOT)  is portable indoor / outdoor trainer for training of artillery Forward Observers in infantry units. It is designed for interactive training in target detection, fire requests, fire organization and fire direction activities  based on STANAG.

During firing missions, communication is crucial between the FO and FDC. The  AFOT trains Forward Observers to become faster and more precise in mission execution.

  • Basic and tactical training in versatile scenarios with various weather and visibility conditions.

FO training device

The FO training device is a compact instrument intended for use in general field observation and fire direction and can be handheld or mounted on the tripod. Through the device, the FO can observe a 360° real-time synthetic environment.

AFOT trains up to three soldiers per session on company level with possible scalability up to FSE battalion level with JFO for naval and air support. Training is performed in realistic synthetic environments, supported with dynamic meteorological, day and night parameters affecting visibility and ballistic calculations.

AFOT can be fully integrated with other Guardiaris products for comprehensive tactical training within the same physical indoor environment setup.

Forward Observer can be trained simultaneously in combination with infantry units in the same synthetic environment and scenario.


The trainer covers the entire Forward Observer training. Forward Observer (FO) and Fire Direction Center
(FDC) training is performed simultaneously.
