FAST-TRAIN Project Officially Launched

FAST-TRAIN, a project co-funded by the European Union and the European Defence Fund, officially launched at its Kick-Off Meeting.

FAST-TRAIN (Fused Analytics and Smart Textiles for Real-Time Operational Readiness in Soldier Training) addresses a long-standing gap in military training: readiness has traditionally been assessed after the fact, through debriefs and lessons learned too late to act on. FAST-TRAIN sets out to change that, engineering real-time operational readiness assessment directly into the soldier's uniform.

The project combines physiological sensing, smart textiles, wearable electronics, edge computing and cognitive analytics into a single, integrated system, enabling continuous, non-intrusive monitoring of a soldier's physical and cognitive state during training and operations.

This achievement is made possible through collaboration with our partners: the Danish Technological Institute (DTI), leading physiological sensor development, e-textile integration and measurement validation; Fraunhofer IZM, leading electronics and wearable sensor integration; Brain Innovation (BRAIN), contributing fNIRS technology and brain activity analytics; Born GmbH, responsible for smart textile and military garment development; ABinsula, delivering edge computing, AI and on-device data processing; and InMind-VR, providing neuroscience expertise and cognitive assessment for user scenario validation.

The Kick-Off Meeting welcomed representatives of the participating Ministries of Defence and the European Commission Project Officer, together with all consortium partners, to align on project objectives, expected outcomes, the work plan, partner roles and the overall implementation approach, as well as end-user requirements and governance.
